2024
The long-term cross-border cooperation with the regional statistical offices that are part of the Carpathian Euroregion, in particular from neighbouring countries, continued in 2024. As part of the cooperation, joint activities were undertaken to prepare of the next edition of the publication on cross-border issues entitled „Socio-economic potential of the Carpathian Euroregion in 2020-2022”. In addition, cooperation was mainly based on the transfer of information obtained from statistical surveys used to prepare publications issued by the regional statistical offices of Ukraine, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary, as well as the provision of comprehensive information on border areas and the exchange of experience on the activities of the offices.
In October 2024, a working meeting between representatives of the Statistical Office in Rzeszów and the Statistical Office in Satu Mare (Romania) took place in Satu Mare, during which topics related to obtaining comparable data and indicators for monitoring the socio-economic development of cross-border areas and the possibility of using them in international publications were discussed. The role and tasks of cross-border statistics in meeting the information needs of local governments, businesses and scientific institutions were also discussed. Representatives of the Statistical Office in Rzeszów presented an integrated system of travel surveys, including an analysis of foreigners and Polish residents, data sources and their recipients. They also presented the results of a study on the health of refugees from Ukraine, carried out in cooperation with the World Health Organisation (WHO), and a dashboard on the health of refugees from Ukraine.
2023
In 2023, the Statistical Office in Rzeszów continued its long-term cooperation with regional statistical offices of neighbouring countries. This cooperation consisted, in particular, in providing comprehensive information on border areas and transferring information obtained from statistical surveys used to prepare publications issued by the regional statistical offices of Ukraine, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary, e.g. the next edition of the publication „Socio-economic potential of the Carpathian Euroregion in 2020-2022” was being prepared.
As part of the cross-border cooperation between the Statistical Office in Rzeszów and the Statistical Office in Prešov, a number of events took place:
- an international seminar was organised by the Statistical Office in Rzeszów as part of the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of cooperation between the offices, which was attended by Domnik Rozkrut, then President of the Statistics Poland and Peter Petko, President of the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic, directors of regional statistical offices and representatives of local government units of Poland and Slovakia,
- two working meetings were organised at the Statistical Office in Prešov concerning the implementation of joint cross-border projects and planned activities in the field of research of cross-border areas, tourism statistics and energy statistics, which are specialisations of both offices,
- internships for staff from the Statistical Office in Prešov and the Statistical Office in Rzeszów aimed at exchanging knowledge and good practices related to the methodology and organisation of tourism surveys. The first internship was organised in October in Rzeszów and the second in November in Prešov.
A study visit by the Director of the Central Statistical Office in Kyiv Oblast took place in July and August 2023, with the aim of establishing cooperation between the Central Statistical Office in Kyiv Oblast and the Statistical Office in Rzeszów.
2022
In 2022, the Statistical Office in Rzeszów, in cooperation with the statistical offices in Białystok, Gdańsk, Lublin, Olsztyn, Katowice, Kraków, Opole, Wrocław and Zielona Góra, prepared the „Guide to surveys and studies on cross-border areas”. The publication contains general information on ongoing surveys of cross-border areas, as well as on publications and press releases on cross-border areas issued by public statistics in 2020-2021.
In May 2022, the Director of the Statistical Office in Rzeszów participated in a conference organised by the Central European Service for Cross-Border Initiatives (CESCI) in cooperation with the Transfrontier Operational Mission (MOT) and the French Institute in Budapest. The CESCI members are local and county governments and professional organisations in Central Europe, mainly in Hungary, who are interested in cross-border cooperation. The subject of the conference was the monitoring of cross-border areas at EU level and the identification of statistical data necessary for monitoring spatial development in these areas. The aim of the cooperation of CESCI member institutions is to harmonise methods of processing territorial statistical data in order to obtain a more accurate overview of cross-border flows and to provide a solid basis for integrated cross-border development.
A study visit to the Statistical Office in Prešov took place in December 2022 with the aim, among other things, of continuously exchanging experience and implementing joint cross-border projects. These activities aim to improve the quality of statistical data and help to ensure its comparability and reliability.
2021
In June 2021, the Statistical Office in Rzeszów in cooperation with Statistics Poland organised, under the Polish Presidency of the Visegrad Group, an international seminar „Challenges of cross-border statistics in the context of information needs of V4+ countries”. The aim of the seminar was to extend cooperation between the V4+ countries through the exchange of experience and good practices in monitoring cross-border areas, the implementation of joint projects and development activities, international cooperation with statistical offices and Euroregions. The seminar presented, among other things, issues concerning cross-border functional areas, the use of Big Data in tourism statistics, new sources of data, as well as methods and possibilities of obtaining them. The opening session of the meeting was attended by the Presidents of the V4 National Statistical Offices and the State Statistics Service of Ukraine. The seminar participants were representatives of the statistical and scientific community of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Ukraine, Italy, the Netherlands and Bulgaria.

In September 2021, a bilateral working meeting was held between representatives of the Statistical Office in Rzeszów and the Statistical Office in Prešov, focused on the exchange of experience in the implementation of surveys of cross-border areas and Euroregional statistics, sports and tourism statistics, and statistics of the material and fuel and energy markets. It also addressed the possibility of cooperation in providing information support to the Association of the Carpathian Euroregion Poland in developing strategies for the development of cross-border functional areas, the establishment of which is intended to integrate border areas and effectively manage cross-border development processes.
2020

The aim of the mutual contacts was to support the development of cooperation mainly in the area of cross-border surveys and Euroregional statistics, sports and tourism statistics and in the field of material and fuel and energy market statistics. The cooperation included, among other things, the transfer of data obtained from statistical surveys used to prepare publications issued by the regional statistical offices of the mentioned countries, as well as the provision of information on border areas.

2019
In terms of cross-border cooperation, the Statistical Office in Rzeszów cooperated with the regional statistical offices of Ukraine, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary in 2019. The aim of the mutual contacts was to support the development of cooperation mainly in the field of cross-border area surveys and Euroregional statistics, sports and tourism statistics, and in the field of material and fuel and energy market statistics. The cooperation included, among other things, the transfer of data obtained from statistical surveys used to prepare publications issued by the regional statistical offices of the mentioned countries, as well as the provision of information on border areas. An important aspect, in addition to publishing activities, was the exchange of experience through working meetings at regional level and participation in seminars and conferences.
The result of joint work in 2019 is, among other things, a publication issued by the Central Statistical Office in Lviv Oblast entitled „Lviv oblast in the cross-border area”, which presents the results of monitoring of socio-economic phenomena taking place in Lviv oblast and border areas of Poland (Podkarpackie and Lubelskie voivodships). The publication contains, in particular, information on the demographic situation, labour market, income and living conditions, tourism, environment, gross regional product, consumer prices, agriculture, results of certain economic activities. The study can be a useful source of information for organisations and people involved in cross-border cooperation projects.

As part of cross-border cooperation, representatives of regional statistical offices from Ukraine and Slovakia participated in a conference entitled „Depopulation. Determinants and consequences”, organised on the initiative of the Member of Parliament of the Republic of Poland Prof. Józefa Hrynkiewicz by the Government Population Council, Statistics Poland and the University of Rzeszów, which took place on 11 July 2019 at the University of Rzeszów. In their presentations, they discussed the spatial differentiation of depopulation processes in Slovakia and Ukraine. Representative of the Statistical Office in Rzeszów discussed the impact of immigration, primarily from Ukraine, on depopulation problems in the Podkarpackie voivodship.
In November 2019, representatives of the Statistical Office in Rzeszów, as part of a study visit to the Central Statistical Office in the Lviv oblast, took part in the seminar „Quality of life in cross-border areas and the use of non-statistical data sources in public statistics”, organised by the Central Statistical Office in the Lviv oblast in cooperation with the Ivan Franko Lviv National University and the M. I. Dolishni Institute of Regional Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and a working meeting. The seminar addressed issues such as meeting the information needs of institutional and individual users in cross-border areas, statistical assessment of the quality of life in cross-border areas, and the use of modern data acquisition methods: web scraping, Big Data. On the other hand, the working meeting was devoted to the continuation of cross-border cooperation, including issues related to the project planned to apply for funding under the Multiannual Programme for Development Cooperation for 2016-2020 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In December 2019, the Director of the Statistical Office in Rzeszów participated in a workshop as a part of cooperation network „Territorial monitoring in cross-border areas” in Bonn, Germany.
For the purpose of monitoring socio-economic phenomena occurring in cross-border areas, an infographic „Population in cross-border areas 2018” was prepared, presenting demographic changes, including the phenomenon of depopulation occurring in border areas of Poland and countries neighbouring Poland. The infographic highlights grouping by border sections - population density and structure, population change compared to 2010 and population structure.
In 2019, the Statistical Office in Rzeszów was implementing the microproject started in 2018 entitled „Statistics for the development of the tourism and cultural-natural potential of the Carpathians” implemented in partnership with the Statistical Office in Prešov (Slovakia) and in cooperation with the Statistical Office in Kraków. The project was co-financed from the funds of the Interreg V-A Poland-Slovakia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme for 2014-2020 and aimed to increase tourism development and use of the natural and cultural potential of the Polish-Slovak borderland by diagnosing the actual state of tourism attractiveness and presenting recommendations for the development of the region to the region's management. As a result of project activities the following effects and outcomes were achieved:
- two information and consultation meetings of the project partners with representatives of local authorities in Rzeszów and Bardejov were organised,
- four training sessions were held for representatives of local authorities, two in Poland and two in Slovakia,
- a methodological manual and an instructional video for local government officials were prepared.
