The study of cross-border areas is important for shaping the socio-economic development of regions as well as deepening the cooperation of neighbouring countries. This refers to relations in the social, cultural and economic spheres, as well as to the cooperation of regional and local governments. Promoting regional development and cross-border cooperation requires adequate information background that can aid institutions and various individuals (including government, academic, business or entrepreneurs) in decision-making.
To meet these needs, we present a publication devoted to the comparison of social and economic potential of Polish, Slovakian, Ukrainian, Hungarian and Romanian regions which are parts of the Carpathian Euroregion. For this reason, the regions of four European Union member countries and one country located outside the EU’s border. The study is one more step taken by the official statistics in order to create a coherent information base for crossborder areas.
The publication, in addition to the analytical part, highlights information concerning demographic situation, labour market, wages and salaries, tourism, agriculture and regional gross domestic product.
